Volunteer Spotlight: Jane McManus

When describing her experiences at Clean of Heart, Jane McManus stressed the blessings she has received since she started volunteering. Jane is a member of Our Lady of the Hills Church and heard about volunteer opportunities with Clean of Heart from both her church bulletin and friends who serve at Clean of Heart. She is at Clean of Heart washing, drying and folding clothes on the first Wednesday of each month. Jane says “My life has been incredibly blessed and I knew I needed to give back to others. I really look forward to my day and try not to miss it… I have never had so many thank-yous or God-bless-yous and hugs in my life!” One day at Clean of Heart, a client shared that he had never celebrated his birthday Christmas. Jane and her friends decided to change this. They now bring 2 dozen cupcakes every month when they volunteer at Clean of Heart along with personalized birthday cards for anyone who has a birthday during that month. Jane shares that she gets much out of this experience each month.

Volunteer Spotlight Series Introduction

We are beginning a new series to introduce you to some of our wonderful volunteers. These short series will give help you learn about our volunteers, what they do, why they volunteer, and Catholic Charities. Without our volunteers donating many hours of their time and energy, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Charleston would be far less successful. There simply aren't words to adequately express how much we appreciate and need our volunteers. Helping Hands of Goose Creek Help Needed

Helping Hands of Goose Creek needs your help! As the economy worsens the number of families seeking assistance at the pantry has increased. Families seeking assistance at the pantry has increased approximately 15% each month. Last month Helping Hands assisted 848 people. Your donations of food, money, and volunteer work will make a difference to families in the Goose Creek area. Donations are needed of: cereal, rice mixes, canned vegetables, personal hygiene products, empty egg cartons, zip lock bags, and used or new grocery shopping bags. Monetary donations are also always welcome.
